How do I know if I have too much weight in my apartment?
I live in a flat ground slightly more seconds that I share with roommmate and I am concerned about the weight in my room. I collect all kinds of books and magazines .. And I have lots of equipment advanced computer supplies, tools and electronics in one piece. It's like my bedroom, a library, living room and sculpture studio in one. Plus I'm a big guy, and add my girlfriend and a size queen bed, desk, supplies sculpture .. and libraries heavy furniture .. I get paranoid! It's wall to wall stuff … How do I know if this is too much?!
Just what is this room? You have a lot to spread around. I hope you have shelves that will help distribute the weight around rather than stacking books from floor to ceiling. The old buildings were probably built more solidly than today, but maybe carpenter ants, or rot dryer that would weaken the structure to look around the walls and start in the basement and the attic where you can see the infrastructure in order to determine the strength beams, etc., are today. You can hang shelving walls (attach, if the amounts are) rather than loading the floor. Distribute things evenly on each side of the room will also help. You may want to sell the "heavy guns" and buy furniture and light book cases to reduce the load on the beams.
